Jennifer “Jenni” Helland is an attorney in the Domestic Relations division. Ms. Helland assists our domestic relations clients in cases ranging from divorces and child custody to juvenile matters. Ms. Helland has a passion for working with families and advocating for her clients and brings her therapeutic background to our practice.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Helland served as a Deputy District Attorney for the 4th Judicial District in El Paso County, Colorado. As a former Deputy District Attorney, Ms. Helland brings significant jury and bench trial experience. While working as a district attorney, Ms. Helland led the Fast Track domestic violence program. Her experience allows her to educate clients on the process and complexity of issues involved in family and criminal matters where domestic violence is an issue. Ms. Helland also brings experience in appellate practice. Ms. Helland handled several criminal appeals as a district attorney including writing legal briefs and memoranda.
Ms. Helland is a graduate of The University of St. Thomas School of Law in Minnesota. St. Thomas has been nationally recognized for their commitment to public service. Ms. Helland has dedicated ten years to public service primarily with assisting juveniles and their families. Prior to law school Ms. Helland assisted in writing and implementing a district-wide truancy policy and program for local school districts in Minnesota and served as a Behavioral Specialist. Locally, Ms. Helland has worked for Savio House and Chins Up, as a Multisystemic Therapist. While in law school Ms. Helland wrote a graduate thesis entitled “Best Practices in Juvenile Court Dispositions for the Best Interests of the Youthful Offender and Community.” Her work focused on the success of evidence-based therapies within the Colorado Juvenile Offender system. In addition, Ms. Helland served as a student attorney in dissolution and protection order matters, assisted in a juvenile drug court program, and acted as a student attorney for the Rocky Mountain Children's Law Center serving as a guardian ad litem.
Ms. Helland is a dedicated advocate and continues to represent our clients in family and children matters. Ms. Helland also assists the Civil Litigation Department with her experience with business management, marketing, and administration. Ms. Helland is currently the President for the Board of Directors for Woodmen Hills Filing #11, a home owner’s association.
